LHS Baseball Informational Newsletter
- The purpose of this newsletter is to inform parents of important issues related to Baseball at LHS. It is the result of the coordinated efforts and input of the LHS coaching staff, players, and past and present parents of LHS Baseball Players.
- We would like parents and players to have ample time to examine and understand our procedures to save any misunderstanding as our season approaches.

Open Gyms and Camps
- Open Gyms are open to all boys grades 2 – 12. Open Gyms at LHS are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:00 to 7:00. There are also opportunities on certain Mondays and Saturdays. I keep kids posted through e-mail and the baseball bulletin board.
- Players are also encouraged to attend out-of-season baseball camps offered in and outside of Central Wisconsin. Again the players can see me about this (I also post these on our bulletin board).
Tryouts (Grades 10 – 12)
- According to WIAA guidelines, we cannot begin tryouts until a specified date (see left column).
- Players are expected to attend the entire tryout period (usually 3 - 4 days).
- Criteria for making the team include: talent, attitude, aptitude, strength, and team needs.
- Unfortunately, we have to make cuts so tryouts are like a job interview. We keep those whom are the best candidates to keep us competitive.
Spring Break
- We do practice over Spring Break. It is our most important practice period of the Spring since we introduce the players to signs, situations, and specific team drills. Missing this time has a major impact on one’s preparation for the entire season.
- If a player decides to go on Spring Break, he would sit one game for every two practices missed. Those whom have chosen to stay deserve the reward of playing time since they will be better prepared to compete, early on.
Miscellaneous Needs
- The student can’t practice unless the following are up-to-date:
- Physical/alternate year card
- Signed Code of Conduct
- Insurance Card
- Since baseball relies a great deal on the sense of sight, we recommend that a student have an eye exam each year.
- We expect kids to be clean-shaven and meet our haircut policy when trying out/attending practice and games.
